Kiehl's recently launched a new personalized skincare service called Apothecary Preparations to celebrate its 165th anniversary. I'm all about skincare and was very curious so I had to try it out myself to see what's this 'personalized skincare' is all about.
The process was rather simple than what I imagined. Your Kiehl's consultant will go through five major skin concerns with you and show you images of what these skin problems look like, and letting you rate 1 to 5 on each. And at the end of the consultation, they'll give you two concentrated formula to mix into a base oil to make your personalized serum for the specific skin concerns that you have.
The five skin concerns are:
- Lines & Wrinkles
- Skin Tone
- Visible Redness
I rated 1 for lines & wrinkles, texture and visible redness as I don't really have issues in these areas. And 2 for skin tone and pores, as I have a bit of uneven skin tone on my cheeks, a bit of pores on the apples of my cheeks, and very visible pores right on my nose tip.
I got given a base serum, pore minimizing complex concentrate and brightening complex concentrate at the end of the consultation. The coolest part is that they printed a personalized label for the bottle and the box that you're taking home with, it's like when you get your prescription at pharmacies, how cool is that!
I've now been using this personalized serum for over 2 months now, it's a good amount of time to give this a proper test. It's suggested to be used as a serum before you apply your moisturizer. Although I found that with any oil based serum or any face oils, I way more prefer to add the oil drops into my moisturizer. I just feel a lot less greasy this way, and I love how much moisture boost it gives to whatever moisturizer I use.
I definitely could see a very visible improvement of my uneven skin tone, my cheeks don't look as patchy or red when I'm not wearing makeup which I'm super happy about. On the other hand, I haven't noticed too much change in the size of my pores, but I feel like the apples of my cheeks have been less oily lately. The pores on my nose are just a real struggle so it might take a very long time to slowly change them.
Overall I'm really impressed with this personalized skincare service at Kiehl's. It really helped me to rethink what my main skincare concerns are, and really targeting at the problems without having to change the rest of my skincare routine.
Have you guys tried any type of personalized skincare products before? And what's your thoughts on these kinda services? Let me know! xx
