Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Swatches & Review

Ever since I showed my Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in my videos, a lot of you guys requested to see the shadow shade I picked, and wanting to see a detailed review and swatches. I finally got around to do it and I'm so happy how the photo and the video swatches turned out. Now let's dig into it!

Above is a photos of all 27 Makeup Geek Eyeshadow I have.  I've tried to adjust the photo lighting and tone as close to what I see these colour in person, to help you guys see the true colours better when choosing all the shades.

And I've also got some close up shots below so you could see more details about the shimmer in some shadows.

Description Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in 3 words, I would say they're pigmented, blendable and high end quality. You guys must already heard and seen enough YouTubers or Beauty Bloggers rave about these shadows. And let me tell you, they do stand for what people raved about! The eyeshadows are 1.8g each, being only $6 each, and the quality is up there with MAC single eyeshadows, or Urban Decay, Stila all these high end brands.

There are also a very large colour selections to choose from. To be honest, I struggled so much to narrow it down to 27 shades to fit in my large Z Palette. I'm currently thinking of getting some of their new foil eyeshadows (10 shades at the moment, more launching soon. I might wait for the new launch!) and more colourful shades to build another Z palette filled with amazingness!

The thing I love most about these shadows, are how consistent the quality is. A lot of other brands have better shimmer shades than matte. But the matte shades from Makeup Geek is so smooth and blendable, and are so great to use as transition shades.

Now let's jump to the swatch, which is the part that most of us are interested! :)

1st Row:
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows (L to R):
Shimma Shimma, Homecoming, Prom Night, Unexpected, Twilight, Sensuous, Drama Queen
Shimma Shimma is a metallic champagne. Super intense pigmentation. This is a great dupe of very famous eyeshadow 'Kitten' from Stila.

Homecoming is a medium brown with gold shimmer. One of my favourite colour from all the shades I own. It looks darker in pan and goes on eyelid with more foil finish and lighter colour than the pan. Absolutely love it!

Prom Night is a pale purple with hints of grey and shimmery finish. Another colour I also love a lot. The finish and formula of this colour is really similar to Homecoming, but in a way cooler tone.

Unexpected is a matte pink pale brown. This could be a perfect transition colour for blending with cooler toned neutral shades.

Twilight is a pale shimmery muted purple. A bit more purple and warmer than Prom Night but doesn't have that foil finish, therefore it would appear more natural on the eyelid.

Sensuous is a shimmery purple with flecks of silver. It is such a wearable beautiful light purple shade.

Drama Queen is a densely dark purple with a shimmery finish. Would complete any purple eye look if apply this colour to the outer V. Also has crazy pigmentation, you might want to use this light handed.

2nd Row:
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows (L to R):
Bleached Blonde, Glamorous, Cosmopolitan, Cupcake, Bitten, Burlesque, Brown Sugar
Bleached Blonde is a shimmery pale gold. It's a bit warm for my liking of a light golden shade, and not the most pigmented out of all the shimmery shades.

Glamorous is a shimmery bronze gold. Warm bronze colour that is insanely pigmented as you guys can see from the swatch. This colour would create such a bold golden eye look that make a statement.

Cosmopolitan is a rose gold with gold flecks and a shimmery finish. One of the best seller on their website that always sell out. I could totally understand why because this slightly duo toned shade is just so beautiful as the swatch shows.

Cupcake is a matte medium pink. Very creamy and pigmented for a matte pink colour. It's also great for bending into the crease as a transition colour.

Bitten is a matte deep maroon red. One of my favourite unique crease colour. Creates an amazing fall vampy look if you apply this into the crease, which I've done a makeup tutorial with it.

Burlesque is a deep metallic burgundy. Similar shade to Bitten but in a metallic form, with a slight more hint of deep berry.

Brown Sugar is a warm shimmery copper brown. Beautiful shimmery brown that could go with so many different neutral eye look.

3rd Row:
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows (L to R):
Vanilla Bean, Peach Smoothie, Creme Brulee, Frappe, Cocoa Bear, Mocha, Bada Bing
Vanilla Bean is a light shimmer with peachy beige undertone. This shade seems matte but has a very slight sheen. I love using this to highlight my brow bones.

Peach Smoothie is a light peach beige with a soft matte finish. The most universal transition shade for lighter skin girls.

Creme Brulee is a medium sand colour with a soft matte finish. The most universal transition shade for more tanned girls.

Frappe is a  medium maple brown matte. Another great crease colour, although I prefer more cool toned shades therefore I use Latte a lot more than Frappe.

Cocoa Bear is a matte reddish brown. This is another unique crease colour like Bitten. It is very warm and creates such beautiful fall/winter eye looks.

Mocha is a deep matte brown. I always use this colour to deepen the crease area. Super wearable and universal.

Bada Bing is a deep brown with flecks of gold. Great colour to deepen the outer V. And the golden shimmer in the colour add a bit more fun too.

4th Row:
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows (L to R):
Hipster, Latte, Rockstar, Mercury, Graphite, Corrupt
Hipster is a dark sand and light taupe tan with slight shimmer. A very cool toned satin brown that could be worn on the eyelids or blend into the crease as well.

Latte is a matte medium brown. I love using this colour in the crease so much. It's a lot cooler than Frappe and works so well for my skin tone.

Rockstar is a pale silver with purple iridescence. It seems like just a normal silver in pan, but appears more light purple / pink on the eyelids once it goes on your eyelids, so gorgeous!

Mercury is a metallic medium silver. Both Mercury and Graphite are super pigmented and buttery. Best silver shades ever!!

Graphite is a light graphite grey with flecks of silver. Both Mercury and Graphite are super pigmented and buttery. Best silver shades ever!!

Corrupt is a  intense matte black with a very subtle sparkle. Probably the darkest black matte shade I own. It has some subtle sparkle in the shadow but you couldn't see them when they're on your eyes. Be very light handed applying this colour due to the intense pigmentation!

Here is my LIVE SWATCHES (starts at 4:08):

Overall I can't rave enough about how much I love these Makeup Geek Eyeshadow. I love the fact that you could pick your own colours and customize your own palette, with about half price or cheaper than all the high end single shadows. And the formula, pigmentation, colour selection of these eyeshadows are just amazing!

I would highly recommend anyone to try them out. Maybe start picking just a few shades, and slowly building your palette up.

Have you tried Makeup Geek eyeshadows? Or their blushes, brushes? If so what you think about them? Any recommendation of any other shadow shades that you love but I don't own yet? I would love to know!

  8. OMG. I NEED TO ORDER SOME OF THESE BAD BOYS! They all look amazing but I must own Prom night, unexpected, twilight, cupcake, creme brulee and vanilla bean! Love how her shades aren't totally unique but more special, not the very typical tones and variety of neutrals we are so used to seeing!

  15. Hi there, love your beauty posts :) really keen to try these eye shadows, do you purchase these from the US website or is there a retailer closer to NZ? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Rachel, you just purchase from the U.S. website. Makeup geek ships worldwide and it's reasonable... I'm in Australia and it costs me $8.99 (US$). It's best to order a few at a time to make the shipping worthwhile!!!
