theBalm Balm Voyage Palette Review & Swatches

theBalm Balm Voyage Palette
First time I saw this Balm Voyage Palette is Emily Noel's review video on YouTube. I've always loved theBalm's packaging and I own some of their products: Bahama Mama Bronzer, Instain Blush in Toile, Down Boy Blush and Time Balm Primer. I absolutely love them these products both quality wise and packaging! I hadn't tried theBalm's eyeshadow before this purchase because I was waiting for them to have a larger palette than their Shady Lady Collection (Shady Lady only has 9 eyeshadow shades, while Balm Voyage has 16 eyeshadows and 3 lip colors). I was waiting to get this palette and as soon as makeup.co.nz got these in store I placed my order and was so excited...

The outer packaging is the theBalm's typical vintage design. Absolutely love love looooove the idea of the name "Balm Voyage" (Bon Voyage)!

This is how the palette looks like after you flip it open. The design of the mirror is so cool/fun, and also down the bottom they give you a few eyeshadow look idea if you don't know how to start with all these 16 shades.
And also the best thing about this flip open design is that they divided it to two parts: eyeshadow and lip colors, which means no eyeshadow fall-outs will get your lip colors dirty. This little detail is really thoughtful and shows how much they think about their packaging!

Here is the close-up photo of all 16 eyeshadows & 3 lip colors:

Each eyeshadow pan is huge! The largest size I've even seen in a palette!

Here are the swatches of each row:

Row 1:

theBalm Balm Voyage Palette Swatches: A4, B4, C4, D4
A4 is a dark grey shimmer (looks black in pan but swatch isn't as dark)
B4 is a dark brown shimmer
C4 is a orange-toned brown matte with iridescent micro-sparkle (color is quite sheer, the least favourite shade in this palette)
D4 is an olive shimmer

Row 2:
theBalm Balm Voyage Palette Swatches: A3, B3, C3, D3
A3 is a silver shimmer (super pigmented)
B3 is a taupe matte (great crease color, not as pigmented as C3)
C3 is a light brown matte (another ideal crease blending color)
D3 is a golden/bronze shimmer

Row 3:

theBalm Balm Voyage Palette Swatches: A2, B2, C2, D2
A2 is a purple shimmer with a slightly blue shift (Remind me of BETRAYAL from Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette, see photo below)
B2 is a light mint shimmer (very unique color, love this shade!)
C2 is a matte teal (the most staying power shade in whole palette, also reminds me of ORBIT from Sleek Ultra Matts V2 Palette, see photo below)
D2 is a light pink shimmer

theBalm Balm Voyage Palette "A2" VS Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette "BETRAYAL"
UD BETRAYAL is more metallic than theBalm A2 and has more of a blue shift in the light.

theBalm Balm Voyage Palette "C2" VS Sleek Ultra Matts

Row 4:
theBalm Balm Voyage Palette Swatches: A1, B1, C1, D1
A1 is a pink-toned taupe shimmer (very shimmery, reminds me of Sin from Urban Decay Naked Palette)
B1 is a nude matte (the perfect browbone highlight and SOOOO pigmented for a light matte eyeshadow! spot on dupe for W.O.S from Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, and this one from theBalm is winning! another dupe of this color is the top left shade from Wet N Wild Vanity Palette, see photo below)
C1 is a light champaign shimmer (great inner corner highlight color)
D1 is a yellow shimmer (I would call this shimmery yellow instead of golden, it's definitely more yellow toned and very unique)

Row 5:
theBalm Balm Voyage Palette Swatches: Second Officer, First Officer, Captain
Second Officer is a classic red
First Officer is a medium coral
Captain is a red coral (pink toned red)
(First Officer is super pigmented and very creamy, the other two colors a quite sheer for reds)

Pros:

- Super pigmented, high quality eyeshadows
- Good range of colors! Lots of everyday neutrals with a few greens, golden for creating fun looks. Everyday work look, smokey eyes, night out looks, all in one!
- Packaging is so pretty and the separate flip cover for lip colors is a great detail
- 16 super large pans for eyeshadows, great great value!

Cons:

- Mirror size could be larger
- 2 out of 3 lip colors are not as pigmented as I expected
- no cons for eyeshadow part! absolutely A+

Conclusion:

One of my new favourite eyeshadow palette apart from my Urban Decay Naked 1, Naked 2, Naked Basics and Vice 2 Palette! You definitely don't need to use another palette to complete your eye look, which is one of my favourite thing when comes to choose large eyeshadow palettes! B1 is my favourite kinda color for browbone highlight, C1 for inner corner highlight, B3 and C3 for crease blending. And I absolutely loooove A2, B2, C2 and D1! Can't wait to create more look with this palette! Huge thumbs up to theBalm for this palette, definitely worth me waiting to see they come up with a good palette like this!

Price: $60.00 (in NZD) or $42.50 (in USD)

    2. that's one of the most important thing about choosing eyeshadow palettes: don't judge how they look in the pans, always check the swatches first! lots of palettes don't look as good in pans but swatches are just amazing! It kinda reminds me of UD Vice 2 palette. The moment I saw the swatches I knew I had to get it haha
